New Orleans Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Collin Arnold said the city was tapping first responders to head to Cameron Parish and other areas expected to see wind gusts up to 170 miles per hour and 20-foot storm surge. Meanwhile, the Orleans Parish Communications District, which manages 911 calls, is sending teams to Baton Rouge to boost 911 call center operations there, Arnold said.
„Rarely do you see a hurricane form so rapidly, or intensify so rapidly,” Arnold said. „We are assessing those personnel and seeing who is available, and we will be ready to assist our neighbors to the west wherever we can help.“
